Julie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Science from the University of Colorado and has practiced as a CPA for 20 years. She has been a student of yoga for over 20 years and has 13 years experience as a teacher. Julie brings extensive experience as a trustee from a variety of nonprofit organizations. She is a mother of two and a student of art, music and dance. Her solid belief in the transformative power of yoga and the desire to share this with those without access has drawn her to Yoga Behind Bars.
Colleen McEvoy is a corporate banker with a large national bank. She has 20 years of banking experience. She holds a BBA and MBA in finance from Loyola New Orleans and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Colleen has a passion for the healing and freeing powers of yoga and a desire to use her financial talents to further the mission of YBB. Colleen’s other passions are her six children, sailing, cycling and hiking.
Heidi J. Gassman is an attorney in private practice in Seattle and a dedicated Ashtanga yoga practitioner who has followed the daily practice prescription since 2005. Suzanne is a yoga teacher, herbalist and former lawyer. She is one of the volunteer yoga teachers at Yoga Behind Bars and serves as President of the board. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Ohio State University and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. Her work in the non-profit field includes organizational management and facilitation, operations, and finance. Suzanne became a yoga teacher to share the transformational, healing power of yoga and is inspired to bring yoga to people who do not ordinarily have access.
Rosa, originally from the Netherlands, is the Development Director at Velocity Dance Center, Seattle’s premier art center for contemporary dance. As a professional dancer and choreographer seeking more balance and focus, Rosa started practicing and studying yoga in 2005. She has a BFA in Dance from the ArtEZ Dansacademie, an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah, and holds a Certificate in Non-Profit Fundraising Management from the University of Washington.
